Trends : Capes are back...

CAPES :  Pronounce the word, and images of masked superheros / dark withches are what immediately pops into many people's minds.

But capes and cloaks have existed, in one variety or another, through much of our known human history. From early Medieval mantles, to 16th century decorative shawls; from military officers capes and 1940s fur stoles, to the fringed ponchos of the 1960s.

But since the humble poncho had its hippie revival, the cape in its more sophisticated forms has seen nothing of a major comeback on the streets - that is, until now. The cape is back on the agenda as one of the major 2011 fashion trends.

Mood Board : Handmade by Hindi Zahra

Handmade : Hindi Zahra

Talking about Handmade, here is a good occasion to wink at Hindi Zahra's album...
As i was driving from Rabat to Marrakesh, i listened again to this Handmade album : a perfect blend between moroccan tradition and jazz.

She starts with Beautiful Tango, a song that drifts between chanson and jazz, then she switches between English and Berber on the cool, folky but jazzy-tinged Oursoul, and subtly changes direction again with the easy-going, soulful Fascination, one of several songs here that already sound like standards. Hindi Zahra's Handmade concentrates mostly on languid, gently rhythmic ballads, but speeds up for the easy swing of the north African-edged Stand Up.

A charming album called Handmade. I'm looking forward to listening to the next album ! Another source of inspiration for SABAH'S GARMENTS...
